Good grief. It never ceases to amaze me what bureaucrats can spend such vast amounts of time and money on, when an ounce of common sense can tell you that there's OBVIOUSLY a link btw. TV time and being active! And I know you didn't get a source for the USA Today article, but the idea of kids being in a home where the TV is on constantly is more than a little unsettling.

Wow, I don't think I ever would have figured out that sitting in front of the TV was detrimental to my kids in any way if the Good ole Government hadn't paid a qualified professional to test it and reveal the shocking results to all of us squirrel-brained parents. *drools a little bit* Duh, George. Thanks Government, you're always so nice to look out for us complete ignoramuses or is that ignorami?

How come they waste their time finding out something that's totally obvious to the rest of us? They think an official result will somehow magically transform parents who didn't care that TV was making kids fat, lazy and unimaginative into parents who do care and do something about it? There's a new study for them.... "What difference did their study on TV make in society at all?"

P.S. sending them outside is also not an option.. what with the dangers of allergies and the sun.

Hmm, I have to say, I particularly liked the part that said,

"Since the study compared groups of children at one point in time, it does not prove that following exercise and screen-time recommendations keeps children at a healthy weight..."

So I guess we might as well turn the tv back on and lock kids indoors since common sense cannot be proven through intensive research study.

As for turning off the TV, I'm enjoying much more quiet time these days now that I don't count on TV for background noise. But I wonder how fair the study can be, since children are curious and would likely take 90 seconds to look at two people having a conversation behind them or to listen to a distracting song. Such is the nature of curious people!

Maybe they should turn off the studies and take the kids outside to play :O)
